Why knowledge base…
Well, we have so many definitions there on the web… and it seems like they are all trying to overcomplicate, even simple things…
We are doing things a different way here.
Please read our basic term knowledge base, terms that you will often see/hear on your website creation journey.
A domain is the name of a website, name that users/visitors type in browser to visit your website.
In other words, when you buy a domain, you have purchased the name for your site, but you still need to build the site.
You can purchase domain name at domain name providers (godaddy.com, domain.com).
Once you buy a domain name, you need to renew it each year.
Hosting is a physical place where your website is stored. Basically, its a hard disk drive storage with your website data, and internet users (visitors) are accessing your website on that hard disk drive. That hard disk is owned by hosting company and hosting company is renting that storage space to you. Computer that holds that storage space and allowing traffic on your website ( trough special software and hardware) is called SERVER.
To host your website you must purchase that physical space (storage). It must be purchased within hosting providers such as: yoyovisio.com, bluehost.com, godaddy.com…
Business email is simply the email which you use specifically for your business.
Normally, your business email address includes your company name within it such as yourname@companyname.com and your colleagues will have their email address formatted in the same way.
This professional way of sending business email will also serve as a form of advertising as your business name will be visible with every communication.
SSL is a standard security technology for establishing an encrypted communication between your website and visitor, protecting both sides at the same time.
99% of websites have SSL, you can usually notice a small lock beside website name, there is also a prefix https:// before the website name.
If SSL is not installed your website visitors will be warned that your website is not secured!
Content Distribution Network (CDN) is service provided from Clodflare (or other) company.
CDN service is saving small parts of your website data to all their servers around the globe. When user type your website address in browser CDN is providing data from closest source, that way visitor is receiving much faster response from your website.
At start there is not really a big different, but by time when clodflare load your website data to all their servers there is about a 25% speed up.
DNS – domain name system, is system that converts IP address into your website name, eg. 3.123.32.100 is yourwebsite.com, it is necessary to connect your domain name with hosting in order to have your website working. Those settings are always set at your domain name provider.
WordPress is web publishing software (app) that is used to create and maintain website or blog. WordPress is instaled on your hosting space storage.
The term “front-end” refers to the user interface, its what user see when browsing your website.
“Back-end” is a code, application and database that work behind the scenes to deliver information to the user. Basically, front-end is visual, and back-end is engine.
